As a kid I remember reading Western US Cowboy yarns the Sycamore showed where water could be found and most welcome shade . Over here surrounding a central part of the University where I worked for some years Sycamore trees bore incredible amounts of fluffy insidious castings about the late part of the year forming huge drifts of nose wrenching stuff, the students had a saying if the study is not done by then tough luck for the exams. My mate in North America used to dread the season there when these trees shed was highly amused when I showed a pen one time on another forum using this timber. Your pen in all its glory makes it worthwhile for pens.
