Taking the Pissarro

Really, so here’s the product marketing meeting at Axminster. Let’s kid these punters lads, we’ll kid Jo Public that we make these pen kits ourselves cos there all stoopid turners, we’ll buy these pen kits from Dayacom and we’ll call them somink different so they’ll all buy them from us. Now here’s a perfectly good kit, got a bit of a dumb Chinese name mind you, they called it the Handsel, now we’re smarter than them orientals so what name shall we call it. Ok boys we’ll call it the Pissarro.

You having a laugh? Handsel not great but Pissarro, we’ll, it’s just taking the Pissarro. If you want to call Dayacom imports something sophisticated mr Axminster, painters are great, but try something more classical like Rembrandt, Van Gough, or similar, but Pissarro, I couldn’t keep a straight face on my stand asking someone if they wanted a Pissarro.

There is nothing new in this world so manufactures make it appear that there is. I think it was Nelson that said "We are nothing more than an island of shop keepers" I am no marketing anaylist or sales guru but I do have the feeling that UK companies would do, or say, anything to part you from your hard earned cash and they do it in some very devious and often nefarious ways.
