I really need a name for this one.

This piece is based on work of Mark Sanger. And not from the recent article in the magazine as I had already started before it came out.

Not really got a name yet but sure it will come. Turned from a piece of quite plain Walnut. Texture applied with a power carver and the blue is an interference blue paint over black ebonising spray. The copper is a metallic spray paint.
Measures 4 1/4" X 3 3/4"

That's a lovely looking piece of work Derek. What base coat did you use prior to spraying the metallic copper paint ?

the whole thing was given a coat of ebonising spray before any of the other colours where added I find it good for things like the copper spray You need to make sure that the wood is totally smooth with that one as it will show any imperfections

Someone suggested a name and it was "crucible"

You would never know that it started as a piece of wood. I don't have the patience to do all that texturing by hand, that would have been done on the cnc lol, what sort of size is it? Hard to tell from the pictures but I am guessing it is to big to be used as a gear shift leaver on a car lol

The bottom is left natural it does mean that someone would need to pick it up to look. This is something I try to do with any piece that I paint just to show the original material.

I have put the measurements in my original post. No CNC, to me that is not woodworking to me this way every piece is totally individual even when making a pair of something

haha I didn't see the sizes, I blame that on old age & my bad eyesight lol
