I had a go at filling in with some sand... first and last time, it went harder than granite and I had to use a grinder to trim it down.

Then that will be a one off and it looks so nice as well try a different medium as hard as it may have been you have still produced a smashing pen

If you use the right grit size you can sharpen your tools as you turn:wink:

It make have been a pig to turn, but it looks very neat and make a lovely pen.

Lovely pen Paul, is there anything else you could use that's not as hard as sand?

I've tried a lot of things Dave including stone, brass dust, pewter, iron pyrites and aluminium oxide but this is by far the hardest material I've tried.
