Ed, much of the ammunition that we were using in the 80s was manufactured during and just after the Second World War. Up until the 90s, there was still unused stock of 40mm shells. Unfortunately the same could be said for some of the ration packs, they had manufactured dates on of 1944. The biscuits in them remained in the memory (and colon) of all ex servicemen along with the bromide laced tea.
