A couple of weeks ago I have the chance to visit the Eden Project and it was really interesting to see the trees that I have used or seen wood from... I often look up what does that tree look like when I see or read about wood blanks some are just so bizarre if you don’t know what they come from.. (well they are to me) for example the last one I looked up was Cabbage wood!! Now that’s not what I thought it would look like.:goesred:

Great photos Kevin thanks. I was the senior Civil Engineer on that project. We took it from a disused China clay pit to what you see now. An utterly amazing job to work on and a great sense of pride to look at it now and say, I built that.
When I left Eden made me a life member and I’ve still not used it!

I didn’t know there was another planned in Cumbria Kevin, I must research it . As far as work is concerned I hung my boots up two years ago and it took about four months to stop thinking and worrying about it - I was getting phone calls from my lads asking what to do next. Now I tinker about in my workshop, sail my model yachts and no amount of money would get me to go back.

It's not in Cumbria it's in Morecambe, Lancashire, the town I grew up in. In yesterday's budget, Philip Hammond allocated £100,000 to "support the development of proposals for an 'Eden Project North' centre in Morecambe" so it's clearly very early days and may well not happen. I hope it does though. It would provide a much needed boost to the town which is a sorry state these days compared to how I remember it in 60's and 70s.
