The Zeta Pen Kit - Compatibility With Aero Kit ?

Has anyone experience with the Zeta pen kit from Taylors Mirfield (UK) ?

I bought some of the Zeta kits a while ago and only recently got around to using one.

I thought the Zeta would be a direct replacement for the CSUSA Aero kit (which is actually a Dayacom kit). . CSUSA means Craft Supplies USA.

Turns out that the Zeta isn't quite a direct replacement for the Aero.

The blanks I had previously turned and trimmed to fit the Aero hardware are too long by about 0.040" for the Zeta hardware. . Also the fit of these blanks (with previously glued-in tubes) is loose on the Zeta hardware components, and glue will therefore be required instead of a press fit.

Of course, there is no mandate to say that look-alike pen kits have to be accurately identical.

I can live with this, but just wondered if anyone else has had this expectation of, and experience with, the Zeta kit.

...it would, but the Zeta is not my kit. It is a copy of the aero though.

Welcome on board.

One thing you need to remember is that Dayacom kits have been replicated and tweaked in many ways over the years, the Aero isn't unique to that.

To get around copyright they make small changes to designs, shapes and even settle differences to the tubes.

So when buying a kit that looks like one of your favourite kits then you need to check up tube sizes if you want to do specific things like you have with pre made blanks on tubes that you want to use.

Not sure of how long you have been turning pens or what pens you have turned in the past.

But certainly there is no "one kit one tube" that fits.

The Jr Gent is a a typical one of the original Dayacom range that has been replicated so many times there are many different sizes in the tubes.

The Zeta is a TM mirfield kit that is considered to be a good quality and if you get in touch with Dan prior to buying he is always willing to help out and would have given you the tube size prior to buying if you needed it.

So my advice is don't "ASSUME" that because a kit looks like another then the firings will all be the same size..

By the way, I use the analogy of "assume makes and ASS of U and ME"
