Well had the great grandson over here all day Monday instead of only a couple of hours, so what do you do with a 2 1/2 year old to keep him occupied. I had also forgot that I said he could help me make a car in the shed the week before thinking he would forget but no, so into the shed we go me doing all the cutting out and cleaning up the wheels on the lathe(a lot quicker that way) he sat there for nearly 2 hours sanding the bodies and placing the wheels in place as I finished them. One thing I will say he has a long attention span when it comes to this type of thing. Found some dowel for the axles and stuck the wheels on. Then had to persuade him that it was cuppa time so told him to tell nanny to make tea. Thinking it was him that wanted the tea worked a treat must remember that in future.

No finish on them and I don't think I will get them back to put on on apparently he has played with them all day today.

I must admite that I enjoyed every moment making these with him time to be treasured

Brilliant, he will probably have these when he's your age and have the fabulous memory of making them with Great Grandad.

Both my Grandads died when I was very young so kind of missed out on those things, Dads Dad particularly did a lot of woodwork, in fact I have some tools of his I still use and think of him every time I pick them up.

Grandads are the best people in the world, he will remember and cherish that memory forever init?
You have made more than a couple of toys, You have made memories, happiness but most of all a lasting impression on a young man.

Times to treasure Derek and make the most of as they disappear very quickly.

Be honest though, those cars were for you to play with weren't they! :whistling:

My Granddad was born in 1879 I new him well although separate by a thousand miles mostly my great Granddad was born at least around the 1840,s when the family immigrated to Sth Australia. Its a quirk of fate if you know your great granddad at all that makes it even more of a privilidge Derek all my 36 GGchildren live far away. Really happy to see the little guy spending time with you.

Thanks guys I certainly enjoy that time. I had to pick something that was very simple yet looked like a toy at the end also I had to be able to have it finished before he went home.
