Got a Thuya Burr blank the other day, but I found a problem after I drilled one piece, there is something in the wood, not sure what it is but it picks out as you can see
1, What is it ?
2, What can I do if anything to still use the blank, lovely bit of wood ....
You've a few options but I'd be tempted to run some thin CA into the void then fill it with a mixture of CA & aluminium or brass dust depending on your choice of kit.
Thuya is renowned for break outs Brad, i drill on the lathe with the blank at least 10mm longer than i need for this very reason .. Also make sure that you use very sharp tools when turning it as the same can happen then also ..
Send it back to where you bought it.
I have seen this blank and it looks to me like it was filled with brummer the seller knew what he had and what he was flogging to you Brad.
Don't be conned init?
