I have just got round to buying Walter's book, which is providing me with lots of fresh inspiration. What took you so long, you may well ask. The answer would have to be that I have been suffering from a severe dose of stupidity. :goesred:

Among the illustrations is the one below, which Walter says is Tigerwood. I fancy buying some of these blanks, but when I Google Tigerwood, I get lots of references to Goncalo Alves and some overpaid golfer. The only thing I can find resembling the picture is on Stiles and Bates's website, which shows six different types, including the one I want, and has five of them for sale, but not the one I want. :scratch_head: Can anyone tell me where I might buy some?

The link you provided, John, takes me to Toolpost. The picture shows six types of Tigerwood, but the list below, from which you purchase the blanks, does not include PB4, which is the one I want. Thanks for trying, though.

Also try Dymondwood, but tends to be USA.

Annoying that is, if not available wish retailers would remove the object of desire from view.

Thanks very much to Mark, who came up with the answer. I had already looked at Turners Workshop without any success because I was looking for Tigerwood. However, I had another look following Mark's recommendation it turns out that Vince does stock it, but under another name - Colour Grain South West. An order has been placed.

With regard to Dymondwood, which I really like, I placed a large order with a firm in the USA the moment I heard that the manufacturers were ceasing production following a fire at their factory. Turners Retreat still have some of the less popular colours, as do a few other suppliers, but I assume that they will run out quite soon. I have about 40 Dymondwood blanks left, but, at the rate I use them, I doubt whether they will last more than 18 months.

So far, I haven't had any problems drilling Dymondwood, Ray, but I use sharp Colt drills in a bench drill and take it slowly, withdrawing the drill from the blank frequently, clearing the flutes and sponging it down to keep it cool. I find Colt drills are better at not wandering than any others I have used.

I use drill point drills but still find the material harder than have a couple of blocks of Diamondwood that will turn up one day in the chaos. My carry pen is one could have sold heaps of them as a result.

Peter.
