Who scratches up their tubes before glueing them I wonder? I personally don't bother, but I though it would be interesting to learn what others do in their gluing-up procedures.

I always do .. every single one ..

Figure any glue is going to adhere better to a scuffed bit of metal than to a shiny bit.

Takes no time at all, can do 20+ tubes in a minute

I do too, I use emery tape and ruff the surface to remove tarnish and leave a roughened surface. Takes no time really. I use 5 min epoxy to glue them in. Works for me, mind you I am not a production turner!

I scuff always length wise, likewise no probs with adhesian ,makes sense to me.Knew a bloke over in the west who used a firm fit,no glue made thousands a year had his drills especially ground. He wears the belt IMHO.

I always scuff. Any additional adhesion can't be a bad thing. I suppose there is a lot of pressure on the blank when turning and the smaller the blank becomes, I would imagine the pressure increases.
I am always up for a scuff - your honour!!!

Cheers

I think I have already posted a reply to this thread, but I can't see it here.

I always scuff whether it be necessary or not. Can't do any harm
and only takes seconds. I always make sure the ends of the tubes are
scored as an insurance.

I use any sandpaper that is to hand; no particular
grade.Seems to work well using Araldite; no failures yet.
I am an avid scuffer.

Hello Phil

Yes, I have using CA and I have had failures when turning. I think the integrity of the CA was not too good
as it was a little old. This is the main reason why I prefer Araldite but have never tried this on unscuffed tubes
