Tried using melamine

Had to do 20 sets of razor, stands and brushes for a customer.
My normal process would have taken a week of of applying and drying.
Got some Chestnut melamine lacquer.
Price not that bad compared to the other stuff available here.
Only one outlet has in stock though.
All pieces were turned prior to the finishing.
Used Phil's tutorial and finished all of them in a morning.
Finish was smooth and not too glossy.
Very happy with the whole process and the results.
Thanks to Phil for his write up.
The 1l tin will go a long way. Hope it does not gel like some of the oil finishes.

If you leave the finish overnight it hardens nicely and you can buff it with cutting compound:thumbs:

Delighted you've had success with it.

It doesn't go gloopy in the tin over time - it stays usable for ages. If it does get a bit thick through evaporation, you can thin it down again with a few drops of cellulose thinners.

I have just started using Phil,s method on the last few pens probably have not got it quite right yet but pleased with the results
