Trouble with decals

I need some help with decals I am trying to create for use on a black pen. I am using white waterslide decal paper on an inkjet printer. I have used the clear paper before, but this is the first time using the white. The problem is when I cut out the decal, the ink is flaking at the edges so that the white backing shows as a ragged edge, and this gets worse after the decal is applied. I am using acrylic lacquer to seal the ink the same as for the clear decals.

Not many of you use decals, but I just thought I'd ask.

If you are using scissors try a craft knife

I have only used the clear paper but lots of people use the white, so maybe someone will come up with the solution hopefully! but a craft knife sounds a good idea to try..

I tried a craft knife, but the decal is small and oval shaped and I couldn't get round the curve smoothly - it was hard enough with scissors!

Help on U Tube in this dept.Use different glues and sealers.

Make sure the scissors that you use are good quality if there is a small gap as the by-pass they will tear rather than cut

Once you have cut the decal as close to the printed edge as you can, mark the white edge with a black permanent marker and let dry.

Thanks for the input Les. Are you saying I should not cut into the printed part at all? Does the marker ink stick to the white plastic ok?
