I seem to have been an age waiting for the paint to dry on these tubes, over 24 hours before I was happy enough with them to let me glue them into the blanks. I had to use a wood blank whilst waiting for these just to keep my hand in.

So now I have 16 half pen blanks with tubes glues in (with CA) this will allow me to do 8 Alpha's, the tubes at the back are for Omegas & Zetas after i've done the Alpha's.

On the last thread Jestyn asked a question or two hopefully the below will help

The paint I use is Rustoleum Painters Touch, you do have to take precautions with it click on the link for more info Rustoleum Aerosols - Decorative Aerosol Spray Paints: I use it because it does the job, the CA doesn't melt it or degrade it. But you need to give it plenty of time to dry, I have also used a grey primer first from the same range.

The tubes are roughed up prior to me painting, I do this on the bench grinder, with a long thin screwdriver passed through the tube, which the tube spins on.

CA glue used is thick CA

All the blanks are from Vince at Pen Blanks

You might want to look away tomorrow Grump

Just a thought Billy, normally prior to applying glue the tube is roughed. So do you rough it again after painting if not will you have sufficient grip, if you do wont it strip the paint off. Maybe I'm having another senior moment but the my old mind works that way.

No Peter the tubes are not roughed once painted but you must ensure the paint is fully dry, hence my wait for 24 hours, doing it this way, using these products I have never had a tube fail due to a breakdown of the glue.
