Throwing this out here to get other peoples opinions (which may help others as well)

I've been making my own resin blanks for a while now, generally buy glass cast resins the usual 2A:1B mix ratio. Generally I've been quite successful with making and turning them, however there have been occasions while turning them that the blank has went flexible, almost like a porous rubbery texture. My inclination is that this is probably due to heat created while turning, but I'm interested to hear others opinions and suggestions as to the cause and prevention. It's happened again tonight with a blank I cast last week, blank was fir cones in a blank & violet resin (for the record the resin was mixed as one batch then separated before adding the colour)

I have come across this a few times from some casters, you are correct it's from the heat building up either turning or even when being drilled for the tube to go in....I put it down to a particular brand of resin but it serms it can happen with a lot of resins especially those that don't require a pressure pot....:scratch_head:

Agree with Flexi..
I have been making blanks for a fair number of years now and I get one sometime two blanks that do exactly that when turning, all batched & turned the same way but they go soft.
I have tried all sorts of things from testing different colours to watching the heat (In the pot and on the lathe) but sometimes it does happen.
Might be a small part of the batch I mixed wasn't mixed enough or it didn't "Cook" for long enough...
One of those amazing mysteries of Resin :scratch_head::scratch_head:
