Use a skew, aiming it in the direction of movement, Keep the toolrest close to subject, skew on rest at all times and use only a third of the tool that is in contact with rest.
Practice will have you performing like a pro in no time init?

I agree with Walter about this video being one of the best, well worth watching. So many people give the skew a bad name but like all tools a little patience will have you using it with confidence. Practice on some scrap pieces of wood.

The skew is your best bet Mark, stick with it, before you know it you will be churning them out .. :winking:

thanks Walter. I had seen that video, but had forgotten all about it. I can see what is happening now, so will keep practicing and see whether i can correct it

I use the first chisel handy always have no favourites left or right hand... no I am not expert but manage quite well. The message for me is confidence sharpening and expectation, I have a box full of must haves not in constant use.
