Alan sent me some very nice blanks as a thank you, well here is the 'Goldern Wattle' and the Elm.... Obviously the
wrong way round

I have a couple of pieces of Golden Wattle but haven't turned them yet.
Now I know what to expect.

It turned really nice and I have given it a couple of coats of Rubio, a very surprising timber

I'm surprised, Mark, as I thought that the blank was quite a light colour, and was not aware of any spalting.
Was the Rubio tinted?

I got it in a box from Australia. It is a member of the Acacia family and fairly common there. ( Acacia pycnantha )

Mark, I had a look at the photographs that you posted of the blanks that I sent, to check out what the Golden Wattle looked like.
It looks quite light in colour. Have you tinted it?

No mate, just a clear coat.... Although it did darken slightly when I applied it, like wood does when you wet it, it's probably my poor photography not helping either

I have another one of those blanks which looks the same as yours, as well as a couple of stabilised golden wattle.
I will turn one soon to compare with yours, and there's nothing wrong with your photography, by the way.
What is your verdict on the Rubio?

Hi Alan,
Rubio is quick, smells nice, and has good durability but won't produce high gloss.
