I decided to try these kits after seeing so many of them on the forum and to be honest I wont be getting any more although I like the look and feel of the pen I was surprised to find it has the same problem some of the J/G kits and that is because some of the components are the same the one thing that I find really annoying is the posting end and the nib carrier used to have a lip to stop the metal ring sliding over the thread and they dont any more so you press the posting end in first then as you are pressing the nib carrier in so the other end sinks in over some of the thread and I an finding this with Timber bits Sedona, J/G and the Barron but what else I find annoying is they then bring out a Mk2 with the lip back on them and put the price up another supplier falling by the way side for me

Right rant over two sedona's one dressed in Saba Ebony the other X cut cocobolo both going in my collection

To avoid the coupler threads sinking into the trim ring when pressing in I use an oak block with a hole drilled to fit over the threads onto the trim ring.
Works great for me.
Great looking timber on those two.

Here is what I'm talking about an old J/G and a new Sedona which is the same as the J/G and the Barron apart from the dome and the nib end is exactly the same the lip stopped the metal ring from sliding over the thread which I find happens quite often now with all of this design of pen may I add in this price range

Yes Les but we shouldn't have to do that mate just put them back to how they used to be with the lip

Despite the problems, thats two lovely looking pens there Woody and its a shame that the kits aren't up to scratch.

Nice work on your part Woody, but if you had used original Sedona kits from Berea instead of copies from the antipodes you would find the quality much improved. Look at how much cleaner the threads are and how much better made the cap centre band is in this image from Bear Tooth Woods who sell the Berea originals:

Shame about the kits Woody, but the pens are real beauties.
I may start a collection like yours as no one up here has an interest in buying pens (maybe when they start using the joined-up writing ......:nooidea:)

Maybe you should start making knives or teach them that a knife isn't a pen to carve their names into trees and park benches:bwink:
