Unknown Wood on a Slimline

Was given this wood by Graham (Cowboy) last weekend, we haven't an incline of what the wood is, so if you can shed some light on this please do, it is very opened grained BTW ..

Placed on a Gold plated slimline and given a friction polish and wax finish ..

It has the reddish brown of cocobolo but not the black with it so it's probably not that but I'd say it's a rosewood of some sort but it's just a guess :confused:

Who knows? difficult to even hazard a guess although if I were to have a guess it looks a bit like the texture of meranti. Laijan - thats a new one on me Woody, even Mr Google hasn't heard of it, you haven't switched your old keyboard back by any chance?

Sorry it should have said saijan but if your wood is dense and heavy then it not that one it is quite light and soft

Just looked this wood up guys, i believe that you are right going by the images that i have looked at .. Dark red Meranti it is then, excellent ..

looks nice that Jim glad the wood as got a name at last it`s been call all sort`s for the last 10 year`s or so mostly unrepeatable lol :up:
