Thought I'd share this as it's made me smile.
I was asked recently if I could make a couple of wooden ramps to aid with pushing motorbikes over plastic door thresholds as the customer keeps his bikes in the lounge, this entails going through the conservatory so 2 ramps were required.

This is the first ramp made from 8x2" with packing pieces each end to bring it up to 2 1/4 " finished height to match the threshold.

The second was made from a piece of sleeper as it needed to finish 4 3/4" high, this is them both in position

Ready for action.

The only way to store motorbikes in my opinion... but the CMM would have something to say.

We used to live in a third floor flat that was only accessible by a very steep staircase.
Ali decided to rebuild a Honda 750 4 up there!
Made moving a very interesting experience!:funny::funny:

Some nice Bessey clamps there Doug.

When I first met my Drain she came round home and wasn't impressed.
Dad's Myford ML7 in the lounge and we had my ol Panther stripped down all over the floor.
She knew then what she was letting herself in for init?
What's the unusual request Doug? The fact he needed ramps, probably getting old and can't lift anymore init?

I can't see the value in having a ramp on one side - surely the polnt is to protect the upvc - that won't happen with no ramp from the out side in

Well it seemed unusual to me Brian :thinks::funny:
You were spot on for the reason for him wanting them though:bwink:

It wasn't really to protect the Upvc as such, if you look closely the exterior threshold is aluminium & the lounge floor is roughly level with the composite material that forms the threshold of the patio doors.
It was more to aid him pushing the bikes in & out mainly because he had recently bought a large BMW & was struggling, his other bikes a couple of triumphs & Hondas are smaller bikes which he didn't have so much difficulty with.

Talking of unusual.
A couple of years ago I was commissioned to make a football team trophy called the "Cockers" award.
The brief was to make the award in the shape of an erect Penis wearing a miners helmet, and all coloured gold!
Didn't take any pictures at the time, but I'll have to ask the team if they still have it.

I've gradually built up a selection over the last 7 odd years Jim buying from a variety of places usually when they were on offer.
My last ones were bought from the Newark show, a good tip is to wait until closing time on the last day of a show, the guys really didn't want to reload the van so made a mate an I an offer we couldn't refuse for quite a number of clamps.

Brought back so many memories from so long ago I have a Scottish mate fresh off the boat so to speak who stripped his car engine oil everywhere came from Pollock Shaws salt of the earth guy but very down to earth. Bare timber floor in the lounge ugly mess. One of his young boys suffered a fearful injury after watching Superman stuff tied a towel around his neck and bailed out of the lounge window head first into the hand mower lying in the grass.A hood on a bike from ever the bikes were stripped in there as well.

I can imagine the grateful guy after you carefully made those ramps mate noted the dog never moved away so it was an everyday thing. I have always had tons of room, sheds etc but can imagine the need for security and an understanding wife not necessarily in that order.

One of the bikes is his partners Peter so I guess there are no objections on that score. His place is a little remote & whilst he does have a few large out buildings I'm guessing the security issue is his main concern.

Having said that with 4 dogs & free ranging ducks & chickens you certainly know when someone has arrived :rolling: but you are correct about the dogs, nothing seems to phase them with regard to what's going on around the place, even things like compressors starting up doesn't raise an eyebrow though the spaniel was keen to be first to try out the new ramps.:funny:

Personally I believe in absolute freedom in your own house to be used for your purposes my dearly beloved has been extraordinarily tolerant with me I remain most respectful however we both are hoarders so reducing our collections is taking place now. Thanks for sharing Doug.
