Now that opened a can o worms init. .

Why not just make them with better plating in the first place

I think you will find out the Brian (grump) has been fighting this corner single handed and challenging the manufacturers that's why we have suppliers such as Dan coming in with different kits.

To be honest, you, Joe bloggs and me, joe's brother Fred would not be able to test the so called "up-grade" plating thickness nd actual metal quality.

That would need expensive testing gear and an investment that would need a decent lottery win to finance.

I general we all have to believe what the suppliers advertise the wares at, up-grade gold means just that, it's usually a thicker plating meanin it won't wear out as quick..

The gold plating is not as hard wearing, hence you usually get the gold that's up-grade but I see some of the other kits such as chrome are creeping now. I can see Brian reading this now and biting his tongue. .:whistling:

Sure he will be along soo and give his four Penorth.

The 'Upgrade Gold' on the Omega kits is an addition lacquer coating. From the original samples the Upgrade plating was noticeably better quality. I have just placed an order today for the Zeta kits in a Full Rhodium plating.

But you quote" upgrade plating," that should mean the plating and not the lacquer. from my experience it's usually that way around plus a thicker lacquer as well.

I thought upgrade used a harder material
so gold would have titanium mixed in the base layer

but what do i know:nooidea:

The upgrade Jr Gent supplied by both Dan & Pen-Kits UK seems to be a far superior kit in many ways, I have had pens from both suppliers with none of the old problems of the clip falling off, thread problems, overuse of glue etc.

Well worth paying a little extra :thinks::thinks:
