Upgrading

I've had a lot of couples coming for bowl turning courses recently. This has led to me having to take courses in the garage workshop, rather than the Atelier teaching space.
It's also been a bit awkward asking who wants the big one and who wants the smaller one!

Spent most of today filling legs with sand and was most happy that Ben Cook responded to my call for help when I realised I couldn't pick the lathes up on my own!

New chucks still to jaw up and new twin motor extractor to install but I need to sort for a teaching session on Thursday which, would you believe it is pen turning on the mini lathes!

Different now, Ron Caddy is a member and he only turns pens!

Nice Lathes have had my eyes on one of these for a while Neil. Eventually I want to upgrade from my Comet II as I have just got into bowl turning and need something that I can turn the motor round for bigger bowls. Did you heat the sand up to dry it out before putting it in the legs or is that necessary?

Opened the bags and sat them next to the dehumidifier Bob. Still a pain as RH has been 100% here for the whole week so far.. Left it running all day and last night and all is well.

I like the way you go about the tasks Neil. Great pity the VL Lathes are not available at the reasonable prices they are in Australia. Our Wood Guild has many installed,great work horses for courses.

I got the lathes properly sited and the extraction fitted over Christmas. I can't say much about the extraction at the moment as the build will be in the May edition of Woodworking Crafts Magazine.



Today I started making some accessory boards. I was teaching last week and kept putting stuff down and losing it.

These hold the outriggers and mounting stuff. The spare is for the chuck itself if it needs to be taken off.



I then started laying the other stuff out to find the best way of storing it. Needless to say I won't be using this layout!

Nowt wrong with that marra. just get the layout board made and don't make any boobs doing it.

Nearly there!
Just need to add a couple of screwdrivers for the pulley casings and most things are to hand.
