I don't know if it was on this site or an American site. But is it possible to convert an Axminster 240 lathe to variable speed or would it cost to much.......

google "Speed Genie" Tom. They make conversion kits for a great many lathes. No idea of their prices though I'm fraid

I bought the kit to convert a jet 10-14 to a variable. Worked well!
I had a speed genie which was excellent. It’s made by hi Steve Haydock.
