Its been quite a while since i turned a pen so thought I'd have a go at some I've had for a fair bit. Vertex click pencil, turned smashin, assembly was another matter:sob::sob::sob:, tried to press the tip nut which is ribbed... far too tight bellied the brass out and smashed the blank. Be GRATEFUL for any advice as i have half dozen of these. Checked the brass and its the right size but in the instruction sheet the vertex has no ribs on either the tip nut nor the cap assembly whereas these have.
I Thank You

Hi mate, a picture says a thousand words, maybe post a picture of what has happened?
I have done a lot of Vertex kits (admittedly not for a while) and they have all been very easy to assemble. My first thoughts were you may have had glue residue in the tube, but you think it's a ribbed fitting:thinks::thinks:Screenshot_20220217_224822.jpgmy turn for a stupid question, by ribbed you don't mean threaded and have this part the wrong way round??

The end of the brass splayed out when I inserted the nib end and burst the wood. Sorry I loaded up the same picture twice here's the other IMG_20190517_163216383_HDR.jpg
You can see the brass is splayed out on this photo. The nib end is definitely ribbed, they may be an older version of the kit. It can't be seen properly on the photos but the splaying is all round the brass

Hi Peter,
Did you have the nib on when you pushed it home? If so you have to be soooo careful it's done square... Or did you have any glue residue in the tube.... That's the best I can come up with as that coupler looks correct :thinks::thinks:

Sounds like it could be a burr inside the tube end. File inside of the tube on an angle to form a small chamfer to help the spigot to go in easier. A little drop of light oil spread inside the tube will give an easier entry.

Hi Bill, wouldn't have been that my old friend as I use a taper cutter prior to assembly. I tried a dry run with another brass and it seemed awful tight as well:thinks:thinks:, not to worry though I'll get there in the end.:banana::banana:
