I've not so far got into posting videos, but there are several people here who have. However, it's something I'd like to play around with so I wonder if anyone can recommend some sensible software please, either free or paid for, that is best for editing videos?

There seems to be quite a choice out there according to Mr Google, but I'd prefer to have some pointers and recommendations from people who know. Can anyone help please?

Hi Phil I used to do a lot of video editting but not much now I use Adobe Premier elements. I believe windows 10 has one that comes with that OS and if you are a Mac user they certainly have a very good editor. I have seen some good and simple video's done with an iPad but if you are taking the movie on anything other than an iPad you would need a camera conection kit to get it in.

Hi Phil. As Bob says it depends on what platform you're using. I use adobe premiere pro as I have to pay for it for ny daughter but it's not cheap. I used to use serif moviemaker before this for windows. Depending on the version of Windows you use you might be able to get a copy of this. Adobe is a monthly fee and is probably overkill for my workshop videos...

Phil, I use Premier Elements on both Mac and Windows. There are lots of alternatives but having tried many of them I have stuck with Adobe on this one. The one other that I use on the Mac is Camtasia. This is really for producing video which includes the computer screen itself, useful for training videos etc. Which is what I use it for.
If you are a full Adobe CC subscriber then you have access to Premier Pro, but that is a lot more complex to be honest. Hope this helps a little.

Hmmm. Thanks for your thoughts gents. I have Windows 7 Pro on a PC, and I've been using Serif software for years. It didn't occur to me that they make a movie editor, so I'll take a peek at that and also at Adobe Elements.
Thanks a lot.

I used to use Corel Video Studio and always found it quite easy and reasonably priced. I also bought an HD video camera but the video clips it made were such huge files it would needed a super fast computer to handle them :rolling:

Hi Phil,

I use Movie Maker that comes with Windows. Actually i'm with Windows 8.1, and i had to download it from the Windows site.
It works not bad, is'nt difficult to use but is a little bit limitated for more artistic editing.

Looks like you're out of luck Phil.

MoviePlus has been discontinued

I'd be wary of buying any software for Win 7 lest it loses updates/support. Hopefully there's a freeware package still available for 7?
Yes, I know what you're saying but Windows 7 is supported until January 2020, by which time I will probably need to upgrade my computers as well as my operating system.

There are plenty of re-sellers out there that still have MoviePlus for sale, and I'm already very familiar and comfortable with Serif products - so having had a quick reccie of a few others, including one or two that people have PM'd me about, I've just ordered a copy.

I'll see how it goes, and thanks one again for all your input guys.
