Having looked long and hard at dust extraction the important thing I discovered is the size of partical that the unit filters . This charnwood wall mounted one only filters down to 5 microns which is fine for chippings but the harmful dust down to 0.5 microns will pass straight through the filter. I bought the charnwood w680 vacuum dust extractor which filters down to 0.5 and the chip type extraction is pretty useless for lathe work unless you have machines where the hose can connect directly to chip outlet. I use my extractor plugged into the bandsaw and I switch the hose over to a poseable extension by the lathe to catch as much of the dust whilst sanding
