Well I can't claim a first dip pen anymore

So here are the first followed by 3 more, top to bottom in order of manufacture, all are in wine barrel Oak from the chateau St Sernin and all smell of wine so the finish is minimal micromesh to 1000 grit and white diamond buffing.

The wine barrel French Oak staves I have used produced very fine grain, excellent turning. Your first shown pen shows good years in the growing pattern ie pic 2, the bottom 2 exhibit the fineness I am used to. Altogether 4 pics display an array of nibs the first three with cut sides, last one intact, all fine nibs, all different lengths protuding.

I am interested, viva la differance and all that, please explain mate about nibs. Recently I wrote a letter of significance to a family of friends and used one of my fountain pens, rather than ink up I used it as a dip pen it yielded heaps of writing between dips.

Well I finally completed the set in-between rolling the lawn from wild boar damage.!! I finally got the production time down to under 10 minutes per pen (except the captive ring!) , no tubes needed and no nib holders coming out. Now all I have to do is create a stand from the other barrel stave and then I can concentrate on making the remaining 7mm pens from the vineyard's old grape vines as well as the backorders for pens boxes and bowls!!

Hi Melanie, they are a request from a vineyard Chateau St Sernin here in the Cahors, the lady who makes the wine is having an open weekend 10-11 Jun and she wants me to demonstrate woodturning but the theme is making stuff out of her old barrels, picket posts and old vines. Normally the invited artists (about 20 each time) do things like paint the barrels or make them into rocking chairs etc one lady paints the most fantastic local birds on the staves. The bonus is that there are normally 4-500 people and if the weather is good that will be 4-500 sat down for dinner as well!!

I had to get them done early because I have a load of commitments beforehand not least of which is a 3 day woodturning conference in Aiguines in the Var. But its not just those, I have 50 slimlines to make out of grapevine, 20 desk stands out of grape vine and a few jewellery boxes to make in between.
