Well what can I say
I've had one of those days AGAIN !!! Yep every thing that could go wrong has.

So I couldn't sleep so at 4.00 AM I glued up the Tubes and got glue all over the coffee table. Anyway went back to bed after a film or two. So I thought I would turn my pen about 9.00ish as I was turning the burl field maple exploded after looking on the floor for parts to glue back on and not finding them, now as the blank was from CW creations and as they are premium price I wasn't willing to throw it in the bin so after sitting down with a coffee and a ruler I decided I could just about cut the CAP down and save the blank but I wouldn't be able to fit the fountain nib I would be able to fit the rollerball so onward to finishing the pen.

I have to cut a bit of the black plastic part the goes into the cap and all was well so onward to the section and I think I have a connecting ring the wrong was round as it has spread the blank out a bit.

I'm now unsure what to do with the pen as I know it's got a fault.

I will post photo's later. ON A GOOD NOTE I HAVE LEARNT A LOT TODAY.

explosion was caused by no glue in that area I have to re-evaluate my method of applying the glue (epoxy) as this is the second time it's happened.

I had a day like that on Sunday...everything I touched either went wrong or broke......... i gave up and decided to watch the Grand Prix and not touch anything for the rest of the day!!

Do you sand your tubes with coarse abrasive before applying your glue? This gives the glue a key for a better bond.

I sand with painters coarse paralel with brass,gives a great key,then in the words of a top instructor and Gorilla Glue sales guyI use it like I was given excess of it. Messy it is Poly Glue,sticks like Tar to a cat,takes extra clean up time but I wait allways minimum two days before turning. No let goes for me.

Got this from Araldite's (epoxy glue) website.

Do not apply undue strain to bond for 6-8 hours. Hold join in place using tapes or weights if necessary. Maximum strength reached after 24-72 hours.

I always leave 24 hrs.

I gave up on 2 part glue in favour of Gorilla glue, less waste, faster usage, no more explosions and faster glue up time and it takes up the slack between imperial and metric holes!!

So I have done another pen but changed my glue up practice

I always sand and wipe down the tubes no change there. but this time I applied glue to the inside of pen blank and then to the brass tubes.

So with any luck the blanks and tube are glued together without any voids

Aha now I understand a bit more, ask Phil of Beaufort ink and erstwhile Forum editor in chief if he has done a sticky on how he applies his gorilla glue, its the same method for any glue.
