Even if you have only turned part of something or completed it what have you been up to in the shed.

For me working on the next project and today managed to turn these two pieces to fit in another larger piece which I am still working on and having fun doing so. The colours of the turning are how they look

I started to clear up the wood shed ready for the winter fire logs, the right hand is for 50 cm logs, the end middle are all at 1 metre and need cutting and splitting, the left hand side is for drying then turning, all the prepared wood is in another barn.

I gave up when the temperature hit 34 degrees :sob:

Well, Saturday went to our allotment show and came away with 2 first prizes, 3 second prizes, a third, and Best in Show for our pink potatoes.

Sunday went up to Leeds to watch a cricket match you may have heard about. We won.

On our way home the phone lit up with an order from a medic I spoke to a few days back. He ordered pens, bowls and goblets made from trees he’s had to take down. All for Christmas, so no rush! (ha).

All in all an abnormally busy yet successful weekend!

Too hot here Pierre, managed to finish a bowl but that's it. I usually clean out the workshop after i finish every time i use it; but not today. The heat has sapped my energy.
Maybe a beer will help :thinks:

Another day in the workshop this time plenty of colouring but no photos yet will try tomorrow. This is what I coloured then had a good tidy up luckily the workshop is in the shade of a big tree which helps keep the temperature down along with a fan. As you can see textured both sides took most of the morning masking up

I've been experimenting with coloured resin inlays a bit, not much else due to bad days unfortunately.

Still got a way to go to get it right but its heading in the right direction. The first problem I had was that the vase fronts are curved so the resin just wants to run off lol, second one I carved a patern with thin lines to see how that went & it worked quite well. After speaking with a supplier next was to add fumed silica to the resin to thicken it up, problem with that is the amount of fumed silica you need to add. 1% by weight to the resin which is impossible for me to weigh on my scales. Since these use so little resin 1% is a fraction of a gram & my scales are nowhere near accurate enough for that sort of measuring.

I will probably try a different type of resin to see how that goes but that then means buying & keeping another resin. Fumed silica can be added to any resin so by using that option I didn't have to buy more resin.

Obviously didn't get the mixing right because if you look you can see a couple of areas where there are white patches. Guessing this is where the fumed silica didn't mix fully. Still great fun experimenting like this, there is so much you can learn.

Just realised I don't have a picture of the one I did with added fumed silica so will add that latter. Second picture shows the design, it is the middle one cut in sycamore. The one on the left is not getting an inlay. After cutting the American Black Walnut I decided I liked it just as it was. Last picture just shows how they look once the middle sections are added.

Did you pay for it up front? Or have you put it on the slate,!!

Sorry someone had to ask:funny::funny::funny:

Have you thought of creating a dam with something like plasticine it will mean cleaning off a bit more resin once hard but it will allow the carving to be filled to the correct level

Congratulations your team mate, incredible innings ,one game to go.

Thanks but lets be realistic. Both teams are so evenly matched it could go either way. Stokes could have been caught twice and runout once and Leach was so far out of his crease it was staggering. And you would have retained the Ashes.

But yes Stokes's innings was unbelievable. I was watching Hazelwood just after Lyons fluffed his lines and he looked beaten. But your team are gutsy and will come straight back at us.

It will be a great match.

I do a bit of work with carbon fibre so this is something I am quite use to doing, don't actually think it would work that well in this case though. The resin would be about 12mm thick at the outside edge lol. The fumed silica did a good job & I have enough to last me the rest of my life, in fact probably a couple of life times lol. I just need to pay a bit more attention when mixing it with the resin.

Alan excellent job, hope he remembers to invite you to his next BBQ
