I have not been posting much work lately so I thought I would show what I have been up to. I will not be showing much about this after all this is a pen turning site mainly.
As some of you also know before Christmas I treated myself to some nice new machines and now I have had time to play with them so I made two of a kind well at least two pieces of a project I have just started.

No prizes for guessing what it will be. Just out of interest these took me 5 days as I am learning the machines. They measure 18 5/8" long by 3" tall and are 1/8" thick.

I know a couple on here will appreciate this

Thank you Derek.

Nice to see it all set up, love the milling machine. Is that a CNC u it as well, difficult to zoom in and get a clear pic.

Been interested in milling machine ever since I got rid of the metal lathe.

No CNC for me Eamonn my poor brain would go into meltdown. Just a simple DRO which is what I used to get everything where it should be but a couple of the measurements were out by 0.0001":face:

I am enjoying playing with my new toys(tools)

I try not to post much on this thread but I will add the odd bit now and again if that is alright by Phil Dart

Due to other jobs not a lot on the loco but have managed to fix some parts together I know not a lot to look at.

I started by drilling 6 holes in each of the angle brackets and then riveted these to the buffer beams on the outside the rivets disappeared( well nearly just make out one of them) with a little draw filling and some wet and dry paper I have not brought these to a exceptional finish as I want a little roughness for the paint to adhere to so only done to 240 grit. Surprising how long this all took now to do the other end which the angle brackets are larger but only have 4 rivets in each.

A few more bits to the metal pile:banana::banana::banana:

Besides this I have been waking the garden up after the winter planting seeds in the greenhouse digging the veg patch, digging and weeding the flower beds cutting grass and pruning roses which keep biting me.

I have been busy Managed to get all six wheels prepared and most of the turning done on them, now all I need to do is turn the treads which is shown in the first photo. The chassis is now assembled ready for all the bits and pieces to be made, machined then fitted to that.

I have also been busy in the garden a quick walk around (Sorry for bad filming)

As I said not posting much on this thread just the odd bits and pieces as it is really metalworking. I have been busy on this project and the crank pins are made as well as the motion plate.

Is going to be a working model Derek?

Sorry Bill missed this post yes it will be a working steam model.

A short update axles are now turned and ready to have the wheels fitted as are the eccentrics.

Things have slowed a bit as I am having to make some bits so that I can start making the connecting rods I need to be able to attach them to a rotary table and have had to make T Nuts and the other bits.

This is the set up I have been preparing as well as a connecting rod having been machined still in place

This is the first stage as can be seen two holes drilled and one end rounded. Still needs a taper milling from the rounded section up to a square section where the large hole is and also machining the two sides to thin the part.

This requires two of these I did have some problems mounting the piece on the rotary table but beat it into submission in the end. The next one will be easier as will the 4 coupling rods
