Looking further afield, whilst it seems in the UK it’s likely a 6x1mm metric thread they do use 1/4” x 28 and 1/4” x 20 over the pond.

Americans like their imperial threads but with many Pen Mandrel shafts being around 6.2mm it makes sense to use a M6X1 thread. They could of course use M6x.8 if the wanted to be awkward! :funny:
