When is walnut not walnut?

Padauk Sierra Click 07042014F.JPG

When it's Padauk.

Checked the blanks at Axminster yesterday and what they sold me a couple of weeks ago as Walnut, wasn't. It was Padauk.
OK so I don't know much about wood ID at the moment, but you'd have thought that a company like Axminster would have got it right. Then again .... I made another Wych Elm Americana and didin't realise until afterwards that one of the tubes was a good 2.5mm short

Do all pen kits come from the same Far Eastern company or are some better than others?

 over.... No they don't, there are several manufacturers, most of which have the same problems because they are mass produced. Sure grump will join in with this one as it's his pet hate.. Init...:face:

That's pretty appalling to sell padauk as walnut! To keep a response short, the companies who collate components and manufacture some are all based in Taiwan or mainland china. Some are better than others. Click pens that you have made are notoriously susceptible to quality issues, normally the mechanism. The click sierra is not a popular pen, I suggest for this reason.

Might be worth mentioning next time you contact Axminster, just not good enough to sell padauk as walnut!
