hi there

I have been reading up on hdpe and all the cool things that are being made out of it.

most of it is recycling and cheap buckets
I decided to make this thread as a place for members to post where they found hdpe

hdpe is all around us and all we have to do is find it
the odd colours are the hardest to find

I will start

bottle tops.
milk /bottle creates from pubs
wheelie bins(blue yellow, green, pink, purple, black, brown, red, lime, white)
ibc tanks (white tanks different colours for lid)
barrels (blue)
buckets (orange)
milk cartons lids (red, light blue) cream cartons lids (purple)

Wouldn't want the bloody stuff anymore, used to come from a company in Widness (Plastech) by the tonne.
Makes a bloody orrible pen, messy to vac form and we don't use the stuff we shred for recycling, it's sent to China to fill otherwise empty containers with our rubbish, reprocessed and we buy it back.

The 5 litre Domestos cartons are deep blue, don't think the smaller ones are HDPE though. Little Yakult cartens are white (at least I think its' Yakult). Motor oil cartens come in various colours and usually HDPE.
I only keep the filtered milk cartons as they are white whereas most others are transluscent.

I've melted some down but not made anything yet.

I'm waiting to give this a go since Ted did his thread.

I will be trying some more of this sometime again later, at the moment I have had another mad urge to melt Aluminium cans for fun!

It can be purchased inexpensively in the form of rods from Amazon (about $10 USD for 2ft x 3/4 in). I bought a length of it to make non-stick bushings when apply CA.
There's a very good YouTube video demonstrating how to do it.

Peace
