You will get a few answers on this one Glen but it really depends in what kind of area you live in. If you live in an affluent area people will buy more upmarket pens like the Pristina for example and if you live in a less affluent area people are more content with slimlines etc IMHO.

Terry is right there You won't sell any pens if you come to Stevenage.
If they can't nick it, it wasn't worth buying in first place.
Sorry mate I can't help on this one.

Slimeline sell well in all the forms such as normal, fattop and longwood and in all normal finishes. Streamline sell well too and nowadays I'm selling more and more fountain pens of all sorts and think that the Omega is going to be a hit. You have to sell them though. I always carry a full fountain pen and if there is the slightest interest I get them to have a go on one and then consider it sold.

In some shows (not that I do that many) the Sierras do well.

What the best answer really is, is to stock as big a variety as possible because even though you or someone else might not like it, it will the the only one liked by somebody else.

I have sold pens at craft fairs from Cornwall, to kent, to Southport, Glasgow, Yorkshire and about every county in between. Sorry Walter, never sold in Northumberland! I have not experienced any significant variation in sales volumes of any type of pens due to perceived or factual variations in apparent regional wealth.

The pens that tend to sell well wherever you be, are those which you like best and therefore express most confidence about. For a long while I did not like the Cigar or Euro, and surprise surprise, I didnt sell many. When I was asked to make a cigar for a very tall and large frame lady. The pen was in shocking pink acrylic and she loved it, as did her friends and I had several subsequent orders. It renewed my confidence in the pen and it is now one of my middle volume sellers. A similar story happened with the Euro, I thought it looked out of date, but the more senior of our population appreciate the traditional lines.

If you think the streamline will sell well, surprise surprise, it will, and if you think it wont, then another surprise?

I take Neil's point about a salesman's faith in his product producing the greatest number of sales, and I believe it's probably true. However, 95% of the pens I sell are as a result of no influence from me what so ever, because they're sold either through shops or online, and via those routes, the most popular for me are sierra clickers, then barons (about 50/50 fp and rb). I have yet to actively market omegas online, which I suspect could well prove to be best sellers - its just a question of making the time to change my website. At the moment the only way I sell those is through fairs, but at the moment I sell about 4 or 5 sierras to every one of anything else

I don't do that many fairs but have found that around here there are no particular kits that are a favourite it seems to be the dress that they are wearing that sells them

Of late my best sellers by far have been the Omega's. And this has only been by word of mouth at my work place, no advertising.
