I have just got a Scheppach scroll saw Scroll Saw: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools and I like it the only bit I didnt like was the fittings for the pinless blades so I changed the heads for a set from axminster which are better Blade Clamp for AWVFS Scrollsaw - Scroll Saw Accessories - Sawing - Wood Working | Axminster Tools & Machinery but to be honest I think if your looking to use it a lot then I would got for a better model which I will probably do next year some time as for blades from my limited experience first it depends what you intend to cut so far I have 4 different types some with pins and some without

Ideally if you are going to do a lot and get involved in piercing work then to be honest you are looking at the £400 mark. The ones which sell around the £100-£150 mark are good little machines but not for the serious scroller. I own one very similar to the one Woody has but without any attachments it has served me well. There seems to be a big gap and not a lot in between.
As for blades yes I agree with Paul Flying Dutchman blades are good, having said that I get THESE which have served my purpose and are easier to get hold of.
As for which type of blade to use for a particular thickness of wood, type of wood and the required finish look at the attached PDF file
