Turners Retreat used to do some I think, not checked recently but worth a look. I made a couple of Southern Comfort pens ( yes I know that is not Scottish but it was what was requested) To be honest they were a bit of a gimmick, I cannot say the aroma was particularly good but the gift was appreciated so that was the point really.

There is little or no aroma from the barrel staves either until the get warm, drilling the holes for the tealight holders made the shop smell like a distillery, I imagine turning them would be the same?

Just looked.. Phil sells oak wine cask staves.
Maybe he could charm the local whiskey brewers to supply a few!

just been doing some reading on the interwebs and apparently whiskey casks have a life span and disposal of old ones is becoming a big recycling issue north of the wall

All is revealed I learned a lot about these casks. My experience tells me the smell gets removed at the finishing stage, the memory lingers for the turner.

Peter.
