Iroko possibly. Or greenheart. It doesn't matter what I say really because sooner or later [MENTION=216]lignaterrae[/MENTION] will be along sooner or later to say what it really is. My money's on greenheart though. It's used a lot in sleepers, which your block appears to be, and if it is, I would be avoiding it for a pepper mill personally - it splinters badly.

for pepper mills, anything works. the ones that I have done use a 3x3 blank, or marginally less so many are ruled out on cost.
