Turned this earlier today. Used a friction polish followed by micro mesh. Ended up with a super smooth finish.

Good looking pen Mike, well turned. I would echo what Bill said though mate. Friction polish looks good but unfortunately within a short space of time it wears off. Have a look at the tutorial on melamine.

Come on guys, give the guy a break. :rolling:

I won’t say anything about the finish as I know a lot of pen turners use it and you have done a superb job of it.

It’s all down to personal taste as I know some customers that won’t have anything else.

Superb pen mate. Nice shape and finish looks spot on.

Lovely pen. Great shape and it looks like a smart pen. I use friction polish...................sometimes and it does produce a nice finish as you can clearly see on your pen. I maybe wouldn't use friction polish on an everyday pen. Great job.

Regards

Craig

Hi Guys
I appreciate all your responses to this wood turned pen especially about the use of friction polish.
The finish for this pen originally started with a CA finish. Now this was the first time trying the CA finish and I had done about 6 coats. When doing the final coat the tissue stuck to the pen and I had to rub it all back down. I did this very carefully and got the tissue of it and the completed the pen by using friction polish which I used 4 coats.
The fact the blank was initially soaked in CA glue I think will help to keep the finish that I ended up with. Time will tell. :winking:
TRhanks for your kind comments
Mike
