Hi -
hope you all had a good Christmas and wishing all a Happy New Year.
Been away over Christmas so was keen to get back into the Man Cupboard.
I acquired some wych elm earlier last year and just before Christmas I bought some pen kits.
This is my first attempt at other than slimline kits.
Sanded to 800 and buffed with friction polish - I prefer not too shiny.

You have made a good job of turning a nice bit of wood just a bit to fat for me but that is just how some people like them

When you have a nice piece of wood and its you're first go outside your comfort zone, its always going to be difficult to get it out of your mind that you're wasting the wood by turning too much off of it and are always going to be worried about turning it too thin and ruining it. This is a very good pen and sellable. I personally don't like it too thick but I make pens that I don't like myself and there is always someone who does.

Nice one Fred, Personally I turn what others call bulbous pens but that is because that is what sells up here, slim lines get overlooked for the more substantial ones, although, I may have turned the business end a bit thinner in the middle is all. Still a nice pen tho

Fred ,
Nice looking pens, don't worry about the thickness, some people like them like that.
I was the same when I first turned Empress pens, coz the kit cost so much I did not want to turn it so thin that the brass tube came through or split near the ends and cost me money
Practice is all that you need to turn thinner , that is if you want too turn them thinner.
Everyone has a different preference , finding the right one that suits everyone is difficult.
Keep turning and enjoyment of the hobby is all that matters.
