Bu****red the first long barrel up and had to make a new one from a different blank; think it matches OK though.

Three coats of CA/BLO micromeshed to 12000 then back to 6000 for a satin finish.

Ooooo that's spot on there Ed.

I love a bit of Yew and when it's treated like that it's even better.

I'll avoid the usual Yew puns as I'm sure Brian will be along with a few shortly :bwink:

It's a lovely warm piece of wood and it goes well with that kit, a great looking pen:thumbs:

Yes the resident moaner is on form today so I shan't pander to your whims and will also leave out the puns.
Ed it's a fine looking pen you have there and you know that, that's why you took the time to photograph it and show it off to us which I thank you for.
Did you think the transmission went in a long way and you were never gonna stop pushing it?
That's because it's designed to have the long tube at the top.
I too think it looks stupid with the longer top and do same as you, seems a lot of effort for a satin finish finish but you have achieved your goal, good luck.

Yes Brain they do go either way round, downloaded instructions do say if the shorter tube is to be the cap then mark the mech to 13/16'' from the end and push in to the mark . I prefer the conventional look but, now that you have mentioned it I may try one the other way round. The finish doesn't take all that long . I have worked out that from wiping the turned blank down with white spirit , applying three coats of CA/BLO and micro-ing from 1800 through to 12000 and back to 6000 takes no more that five minutes in total..

The timberbits instructions only mention that the longer tube is for the nib end, it must look strange if the longer tube goes at the clip end:thinks:

The transmission is designed and marked to fit the slimline tube, therefore the slimline tube should be placed at the bottom.
This is an age old argument and I only mention it because I wanna fight.
Who cares which way round it goes, you paid for the kits, you make em how you want.

I signed on this morning and got treated like a doombrain spotty faced kid because I hadn't filled in my "look for work diary" by a slip of a girl who thinks I need training to further my career and wanted to sign me up for course on how to improve my CV.
Silly girl didn't even know what a curriculum vitae is, her idea is a short resume of recent events with eye catching phrases, so I gave her a few phrases and promptly got escorted from the building with an explanation that because I hadn't been allowed to sign it would affect the benefits I don't get.
£11.00 for a class 1 unemployed stamp minus £2.00 parking fee. For a £9.00 credit they expect to search 5hrs every day for a job and document my progress. And I am expected to take any offer of work that comes along I am not allowed to refuse or it will affect my benefits.
Before attending the sign on booth I had to see my "career adviser" (do I want a career at my time of life) "I see in your previous jobs you have worked as a mechanic, do you still maintain an interest in cars"? Yes I answered. "Go to Tesco car park they want somebody to work as a car valet for a few days to cover sickness." If I say my reply was "not on your nelly" you'll get the gist of my actual words.

Rant over are you still here?

Some people are just work shy! Anyway don't you have to have at least an Eastern European accent to work on a supermarket car valet:bwink:
