Hi guys,
I don't post a lot these days but do keep in touch with the forum. Am dabbling with casting and would ask whether any one out there have used Xencast P2 from Easycomposites for casting and their opinions. I can't invest in pressure pots etc and read that this product does not need 'degassing' if you are gentle!!
Many thanks
Chris

P2 and to be fair most of the xencast range have a short pot life.
With the p2 in mind as this is the one you mention it has pot life of just over 2 minutes. This means it will start setting in that time. This is very short and mixing will introduce air no matter how careful you are in that time. To ensure a good mix in that time would be very hard work.
I have used the p6 in past and that has a short pot life but would never cast PU without a pressure pot.
As for de-gassing with vacuum that is something I rarely do as pressure is more important. I only really de-gas silicone rubber when making moulds.
You may get away with a long cure epoxy with careful mixing or the best option for no pressure pot would be polyester resin.

2 minutes without a pressure pot is... well... mildly insane. :) Regular alumilite is 7 minute and I tend to use the alumilite slow that gives me 11 minutes. If you're not going to use a pressure pot you're looking for an open time that you measure in hours really.
