Evening pen people!
First time back in the workshop for a little while so thought I’d do something a little different (for me).
This material is called Raffir and it is heat sensitive causing it to change colour as it warms up. It also has aluminium running through it so, quite honestly, it was a bit of a risky one as these sorts of dual-medium blanks tend to be the best candidates for chip outs in my experience.
However I took it easy with light passes and fairly high revs and it came out ok.
The last photos show the difference in colour which is achieved by holding the pen for a few seconds or even just by leaving out in a moderately warm room. The change in colour is a bit more dramatic in real life but I was outside in the rain taking the photos so didn’t hang around too long to get it to optimum brightness.
Anyway I don’t think I’ll be turning this stuff again (it was £60 per blank) so thought I’d share in case any of you fancy a go.
Cheers
Ash
