OOOPS should have been Yew goblet:funny:

Anyway I made a couple of goblets for a competition on another site this one is the one I rejected. Made from Yew and it stands 7 3/4" tall by2 1/2" at the widest point the rings are 3/16". I turned three rings and the broke the worst one off as I only wanted the two. The last picture is just to show the ring size, I do not own a ring forming tool of anykind I just use standard tools along with a couple of chisels made from allan keys.

Beautiful detail Derek. I had a captive ring tool. Sold the bloody thing, it was easier to do it with normal tools as you have said.

Excellent stuff Derek. I do have a ring tool. I tried it once, couldn't use it and made a pen instead.

Thank you all out of the two I made this was the easiest. When I have posted the other one in the competition I will post it here on this forum and explain why this was the easiest.

From what you say about the ring tools I will not bother with them as you would need to buy different ones depending what size cross section you need and then they probably won't come in the size you want, so I will carry on the way I am as you can see I can turn them to about 1/16"

Don't worry about getting close use it as a practice session you will also get feed back which can only help in the end. I am also sure that you would make a good effort as well. As you know I once was not keen on taking part in competitions until I was kind of bullied(in a friendly way) to take part in a competition at Ally Pally Getwoodworking show. At which I entered this piece and came a respectable third place winning a Robert Sorby turning set.

Nice job Derek. If this is the reject the others must be great, hope you win. I don't bother with a ring tool either.
