As per another comment, I wouldn't immediately have recognised this as Yew. It's a little darker than I would  expect for Yew and the grain, too, is unusual. A lovely pen results so it just goes to show one can never be certain how a piece of wood will turn out. Can you advise, please, how you finished the pen?
