Yew

I cut some blanks from some extremely dry Yew recently and found it to be very splintery and full of cracks.
Here's one that just about stayed in one piece on an Omega kit.

I know what you mean about some of the Yew. I had some lovely stuff for boxes, when I cut in to it that was full of fine cracks and splits. Oh the joys of wood, never know what’s it’s going to find.

Hi Alan, of all the species out there, I think Yew can be one of the most unpredictable..... I have seen jaw dropping stunning to plane boring, wet to brittle dry and most things in between...
Lovely job on yours though, nice shape and great character too... Well done for persevering
