Just a short poll on "If you had a choice of wood that you would use above all others to make a pen, would it be in this list" Your reasoning would be good to hear ..

(edit) sorry Jim, I replied with my post before your list was showing above, but I do like Olive which will get my vote from your list

I love the London Plane, its a reasonable price, easy to work with & a plentiful supply in the UK :banana:

And then of course the grain :thinks:

Much underrated I feel :thinks:

I nominated Amboyna because its a loose naming of the Burl form of so many Rosewoods grown around the world cover so many timbers. The Mallees are Eucalypts all 760 of them.

I always liked Natalie Wood, but as she's gone, second choice would be walnut.
I love guns and there are some stunning walnut stocks out there.

Take a guess
The problem with timber is you think you've seen a species then a piece of wood comes along & completely changes your view of that species.

I like Hornbeam but it's a fairly boring timber re grain, then last week I came across some spalted Hornbeam & I think it's possibly the nicest spalted timber I've ever seen & I certainly didn't think I'd be saying that the week before, plus it's native & I do like the idea of knowing where my timber came from.
