I've been promising to made a nice pen for my wife for a while.
I got hold of a piece of Swamp Kauri. For those that don't know this wood it's from New Zealand and is their version of bog oak. But these are huge trunks that they dig out of the peat - sometimes up to 40ft round and 200 ft long and around 35,000 years old!
It was softer than I expected to turn. It didn't look much when sanded, but when polished and placed in the sunlight, it really glows.
Anyhow, she's delighted with it.
