I took the closed end mandrel kindly lent to me by Ray on a visit to Neil Lawton and the wood fairy yesterday and this closed end Baron in some of Neil's elm is the result of a collaborative effort. I does have some issues (and had several more that have been rectified). Put two pen makers together and you get twice as many cock ups. Nonetheless C&C are welcome as always.

The mandrel works a treat Ray and we took a few WIP photographs that will be included in the article. :thumbs:

Blank prepared to length by Neil

Neil did the drilling after I had measured the required depth (incorrectly :goesred:) tube gluing was a joint effort (Neil held the tube of Araldite whilst I took the cap off it)

Squared off by Neil. Closed end turned and finished by me, cap end turned and finished by Neil.

Closed end re-drilled by me to allow the rollerball refill to fit. Oops!! :rolling:

Dismantled and end trim adjusted by me this afternoon to improve the fit and get rid of chipped end.

Sounds like herculean effort Walter, in how not to make a pen :nonono::funny: They say too many cooks, seems like 2 turners doesn't work :funny: Onli kidding :bwink:

Ray Mandrel Neil Blank Walter learning much more success than the camel designed by a committee, turned out right in the end. Sounded like serious fun.

Good to see that you had fun together making the pen, now that that part is over who won the fight to keep the pen .. :ciggrin:
