Hi everybody,
although I have been a member for a few weeks I have only just seen this place to introduce myself. My name is Bill, am Scottish but have lived in north Yorkshire, where my wife comes from, since coming out of the army in 1964. I have done some turning, on and off, for years. Made a lathe out of scrap that worked, after a fashion, many years ago. I turned bowls and platters. I was really inspired by the lady turner Joey Richardson, her platters got me interested. Due to breathing problems I stopped turning, engraving glass and making walking sticks and crooks, oil painting was doing me no good, the white spirit, or turps bad for me.
Then my younger son gave me a pen making kit and showed me some he had made, aye that was me hooked. So I have now turned twenty four slimline pens, but have made most of those fatter by inserting rings, or spacers from whatever, off cuts from the acrylic blanks for example. My last four had coke can aluminium snaking along, and look quite good. The rings for those I cut out of alloy angle.
I live very near another member who lives in West Witton. I have found everybody very helpful and friendly, very nice.
