That is one gorgeous looking lathe. It would be shame to get it dirty.

My Dad past his on to me about a year ago, it's well used and much chipped paint. He bought in 1976 for £120 and it's got the gearbox. It must have been about 4 years old then.

It a great lathe to use. I've made several pens on it and I'm just getting back to it

On thing my Dad did was to put a screen across the back of the motor to stop metal swarf falling in. It may not be the original motor though.

Cheers

That's the best example I've ever seen and worth every penny of the £790 you paid imo.

I had the chance to buy my neighbours when he passed away a few years ago and though I bought his Meddings drill press, just couldn't justify the lathe. the guy was an electrical engineer and had bought it new originally for £40 so it was ancient but great working order with loads of accessories and also had a milling machine. i could have had the lot for around £400 and I'll always regret not taking it. :sob:

Have fun with yours

The lathe is the cheap part, its all the accessories that cost 3 or 4 times as much as the lathe.

Yeh I know Mark and he had a lifetimes' worth. There were 6 or 7 chucks, lots of spare parts and loads of accessories. The stand alone milling machine was the same with boxes full of cutters etc. He made railway locomotives so hobby use only.

I was a bl**dy idiot! :sob:
